Sydney Harbour Tunnel fire.
FIRE & SECURITY CONSULTING SERVICES
SOMETIMES YOU'VE JUST GOT TO LAUGH AT LIFE
The deluge system installed in the Sydney Harbour Tunnel continues to provide exceptional safety for users with many "operations" over the years. The latest "save" was August 26 this year where a vehicle fire was extinguished- the tunnel was reopened within 3 hours - see photo above.
The Burnley tunnel in Melbourne is protected by a deluge system as described in the Sydney Harbour Tunnel paper.
In March 2007 a traffic accident initiated a major fire which was successfully extinguished. See reviews below.
Rick is proud that he and his team at Eagle Consulting Group, together with the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority and the NSW Fire Brigade developed the methodology used in this and subsequent tunnels in Australia. See further acknowledgements in the paper on the Sydney Harbour Tunnel.
